Le ballet du Bolchoï constitue décidément un produit d'exportation de premier choix pour la Russie. Après Paris et Londres, la célébre compagnie s'apprête à partir en tournée aux USA, du 6 octobre au 13 novembre 2004.
Elle se produira à Boston, Minneapolis, Seattle, Berkeley et Chicago, avec un programme ou alterneront Don Quichotte et Raymonda.

"Don Q" is a bravura comic ballet, and the Bolshoi delivered in both departments. Maria Alexandrova, as Kitri, the spirited heroine, was a flame burning through the challenges of difficult choreography she seemed only to laugh at. Alexey Loparevich was an appropriately addled and idealistic Don. Yury Klevtsov was an unimpressive Basil, though, quite overwhelmed by Alexandrova, and technically disappointing.

For the Bolshoi to continue to tour internationally means adjusting to a climate it once ruled, and that means ignoring dancer seniority in order to present its greatest talent in the principal roles. Alexandrova is its latest goddess, and everyone should have a shot at seeing her. |

Merci Inga! La critique du Boston Globe est semble t'il un peu dure, mais en tout cas, elle reconnaît en Maria Alexandrova l'une des plus grandes danseuses actuelles.

Autre article, un peu ancien, mais pas inintéressant, sur www.boston.com, le magazine en ligne du Boston Globe, qui présente la tournée américaine du Bolchoï. Au travers des déclarations de l'organisatrice de cette manifestation, Martha Jones, "executive director" de la Bank of America Celebrity Series, que son rêve est de faire venir outre-Atlantique le Ballet de l'Opéra de Paris,

Critique négative du Boston Herald au sujet de Raymonda. Le journaliste américain semble d'ailleurs inspiré par des moitifs plus politiques qu'artistique, et considère que ni la chorégraphie de Grigorovitch, ni la musique de Glazounov ne sont dignes d'intérêt. Sur ce plan là au moins, l'Histoire lui a depuis longtemps donné tort...

Un article nettement plus nuancé, de Christine Termin, est paru sur cette même Raymonda dans le Boston Globe du 7/10. La journaliste a particulièrement apprécié Maria Alexandrova et Ekaterina Shipulina, alors que Sergueï Filin et Nadejda Gratcheva ne l'ont pas vraiment convaincue :

As Raymonda, Nadezhda Gracheva was skilled but mannered, as if she'd performed the part a few too many times. Her partner, Sergey Filin, was a more dynamic presence. As the smitten Saracen, Dmitry Belogolovtsev looked like he'd studied Rudolf Valentino movies. The hokiest moment was the pas de deux for Raymonda and the Saracen: It's tough to reject an unwanted suitor convincingly when he's holding you up as you pirouette, and Gracheva and Belogolovtsev didn't manage the effect.
The finest dancing came from Maria Alexandrova and Ekaterina Shipulina, cast as Raymonda's friends. The famous male quartet with the double tours en lair was ragged. |
