En ce qui concerne les participants prévus:
- Alina Cojocaru et Johan Kobborg danseront Roméo et Juliette le 14 avril.
- Mathieu Ganio interprétera le rôle d'Albrecht dans Giselle aux côtés d'Olesya Novikova le 15 avril.
- On devrait retrouver une association Bolchoï-Mariinsky avec Maria Alexandrova qui dansera Gamzatti aux côtés d'Ulyana Lopatkina en Nikiya dans La Bayadère le 18 avril.
- Dans Don Quichotte, c'est encore une association Bolchoï-Mariinsky qui serait prévue avec le couple Natalia Osipova-Léonid Sarafanov.
- Pour le gala de clôture, la participation d'Agnès Letestu et de José Martinez est annoncée: ils interpréteront Delibes Suite.
Je crois que je n'ai rien oublié de ce qu'on avait annoncé jusqu'à présent. Informations à compléter évidemment...

| Quel plaisir de revoir Nicolai! Il allie courage intelligence sensibilité à un art russe de la "fougue "une belle humanité se lit dans cet extrait comique et d'attention à l'autre...très rare!

Le Réveil de Flore, ce sera la "reconstruction" de cette année, qui fera donc l'ouverture du Festival du Mariinsky.
Comme annoncé précédemment, elle sera l'oeuvre de Sergeï Vikharev, déjà responsable au Mariinsky (il a remonté d'autres ballets ailleurs, à Novosibirsk notamment, comme Coppélia ou Le Conservatoire de Bournonville) des reconstructions de La Belle au bois dormant (1999), de Petrouchka (2000) et de La Bayadère (2002).
Nouvelle information donnée par le journal TimeOut de Saint-Pétersbourg et citée sur un site russe: ce serait Evgenia Obraztsova qui devrait interpréter le rôle de Flore.
J'en profite pour remettre ici quelques petits éléments sur ce ballet de Petipa, déjà postés ailleurs.

Représenté pour le public le 17 février 1895 au Théâtre Impérial dans la même distribution.

Le VIIème Festival du Mariinsky s'est ouvert hier avec une soirée intitulée "The Russian Project", comprenant Apollon de Balanchine, une création de Alexei Miroshnichenko, Wie der alte Leiermann, et la reconstruction signée Sergeï Vikharev d'un ballet anacréontique de Petipa, Le Réveil de Flore.
Galina Stolyarova, dans le St Petersburg Times d'aujourd'hui (l'article semble cependant avoir été écrit avant la première), évoque notamment les deux soirées d'ouverture de ce Festival et les créations qui doivent y être présentées.

On the opening night, the company was due to premiere Sergei Vikharev’s reconstruction of Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov’s one-act ballet “The Reawakening of Flora,” originally created for Mathilda Kshesinskaya and later adored by Anna Pavlova.
In addition to this newly-wrought classical piece, in which Flora, the goddess of flowers, falls in love with Zephyrus, the god of the West Wind, the festival will include two new ballets by the Mariinsky’s Alexei Miroshnichenko. The first is set to Leonid Desyatnikov’s piece for violin and piano “Like an Old Organ Grinder” and the second — working title “The Ring” — will be performed to rap music written specifically for the occasion by 2H Company, a St. Petersburg band that works on the boundary between experimental electronic music and hip-hop.
“The Reawakening of Flora” was first shown at the Mariinsky in 1894, when Princess Ksenia Alexandrovna married her cousin, the Grand Duke Alexander Mikhailovich, the youngest son of Nicholas I. Choreographer Sergei Vikharev, who is responsible for the reconstruction, compared the ballet’s exuberance to Faberge jewellery.
“This little piece is like an ornate Faberge egg,” he said. “The concentration of solo dancing for the role of Flora is enormous and there would be enough to stretch it into a two- or three-act work.”
Another premiere Thursday was “Like an Old Organ Grinder.”
“It is very difficult to discuss music and choreography because you really need to listen to one and see the other but I can tell you that the form of Desyatnikov’s piece naturally dictated the form of my ballet opus,” Miroshnichenko said. “There is a female solo and then a duet, followed by a nonstop 15-minute long male solo.”
“The two soloists go on stage simultaneously and dance to the same music, perform different moves, tell different stories and exude different emotions,” Desyatnikov said. “This piece was not intended for a ballet, and as a composer I was thrilled to see that the balletmaster was able to see various layers and levels in the score.”
Desyatnikov and Miroshnichenko have worked together before.
Miroshnichenko’s “Du cote chez Swan” set to Desyatnikov’s score, premiered during the 2006 festival. With literary as well as choreographic references, in the piece the balletmaster alludes to Marcel Proust’s “Swann’s Way” and Michel Fokine and Camille Saint-Saens’ “The Dying Swan.” Miroshnichenko said he was inspired by Desyatnikov’s unorthodox score.
“His music deliciously bridged these two worlds, and the challenge facing me as a choreographer was to visually connect the dying Swan experience with Proust’s twisted reality where time doesn’t exist, through Desyatnikov’s talented, sharp, witty music,” the balletmaster said. “So in my piece, just like in Proust’s prose, dreams blend with reality, real events mix with the imagined, and beginnings are confused with endings.”
“The Ring,” which premieres on Friday, features two powers challenging each other, and a referee. But there will be no kick-boxing, mud-wrestling or martial arts involved.
“The contradiction will be in the air, with the dancers’ neoclassical moves being in opposition with the rhythms of electronic rap soundtracks,” Miroshnichenko said. “‘The Ring’ is a rather conventional title and the word should not be taken literally.”
“The only limiting factor was the theater’s request not to use obscene language,” said Mikhail Fenichev, a 2H member responsible for music including rap vocals. “The rest is pretty much like what I have done before.” |
La suite de l'article peut surprendre, car la journaliste russe, mentionnant les noms des invités étrangers, annonce que José Martinez et Agnès Letestu, habitués de cet événement, ne participeront finalement pas au Festival, en raison de la blessure récente d'Agnès Letestu. | De fait, Agnes Letestu et José Martinez ne participeront pas au gala qui sera composé de divertissements ( pas de 2/Tchaikovski, le Cygne, la Rose malade, pas de 2 de DQ, ...) et du "Réveil de Flore" que j'ai vu ce vendredi avec la 2nde distribution ( Osmolkina et Fadeev). La reconstitution de Sergueï VIKHAIREV ressemble au photos de la production d'origine. C'est du Petitpa pur sucre comme le Mariinsky sait le danser. Difficile à chaud de faire un commentaire. Disons que c'est à la fois plaisant et désuet.

Goats (like satyrs) can be most unruly on stage.
I have seen this happen.
Not to speak of the dread events in "Wolff" last year.
Let us hope this one was sedated, or at the very least, sedate.

Kevin Ng publie ce matin dans le St Petersburg Times un article évoquant les différentes premières qui ont eu lieu durant ce Festival, notamment Le Réveil de Flore, qu'il semble avoir particulièrement apprécié et dont il loue les interprètes, Wie der alte Leiermann et le Ring.

“Le Reveil de Flore” celebrates the love of Flora, the goddess of flowers, and Zephyrus, the god of wind. After not having been performed in Russia for over a century, it has come back to life through Vikharev’s meticulous research of the original choreographic notations, together with the faithful reproduction of the ornate original sets and costumes. This result is a gem: Petipa’s felicitous choreography, comprising 45 minutes of joyful pure dance, is a glorious celebration of divine harmony and order.
The ballet opens with a beautiful dream solo for the goddess Diana. There are also solos for the other goddesses and gods and pleasing ensemble dances for the corps de ballet. Flora has a number of demanding solos and a duet with Zephyrus. Toward the end, there is a spectacular procession of mythical figures, including nymphs, satyrs, and fauns, beautifully decorated by garlands and maypoles, as well as the welcome appearance of a real white goat leading a carriage. The ballet climaxes with a dazzling apotheosis.
On the opening night on April 12, Yevgenia Obraztsova (who went on to win the Golden Mask Award for best female dancer just two nights later) and Vladimir Shklyarov were superlative in the main roles. Obraztsova’s dancing was luminous, sweetly gracious and utterly ravishing. She sparkled in her various solos with her sharp and precise legwork. Shklyarov had an easy effortless virtuosity, and shone in his solos with his quicksilver jumps and beaten steps. In the second cast, seen on April 13, Yekaterina Osmolkina’s Flora had a warm glow, while Andrian Fadeyev was a more heroic Zephyrus.
The other two premieres were created by Alexei Miroshnichenko, the Mariinsky’s house choreographer. “Wie der Alte Leiermann” (Like the Old Organ-Grinder), with music by contemporary Russian composer Leonid Desyatnikov, was a dark and gloomy pas de deux impressively danced by Darya Pavlenko and Anton Pimonov; the latter also had a dazzling solo. The choreography was efficient but not particularly memorable.
Pimonov was also superb in the second, more significant, Miroshnichenko premiere: “The Ring,” which broke Mariinsky tradition by featuring loud, electronically enhanced hip-hop music, specially composed by the St. Petersburg band 2H Company.
“The Ring” revolves around a contest between two forces — represented by two couples clad in black and white, and their respective entourages — with Pimonov as a central referee-like figure. It is a somber ballet set in near darkness on a bare stage. Viktoria Tereshkina and Mikhail Lobukhin, as the black couple, were absorbing in a knotty and intricate duet. The massed finale for the ensemble was quite striking and drew loud ovations. In all, it is a powerful work, although slightly long in places. |
