This is hilarious. Or at least, it would be, were matters not so goddam serious.

Something like 40 German actors, singers etc., have created a Video channel called

Allesdichtmachen

which means "ShutEverythingDown".

It's the equivalent of Jonathan Swift's A Modest Proposal.

All German newspapers have headlines about the videos today, the German twitter trends were full of them yesterday. We have horrified comments from nurses, doctors, politicians and many, many other actors. If that is not a shitstorm, I wouldn't know what is.

Heike Makatsch or Kostja Ullmann (for example), who apologized yesterday, do not earn their living by Tatort, other Tatort actors keep their videos up. My link was an example, and other than the BBC, the German ARD is still a widely independent broadcaster.

The discussion in Germany rages exactly about the fine line between irony and cynicism. I venture to say which side Mrs. Kanter is on.

En gros, toute une série d'acteurs, de réalisateurs, de producteurs de télé, de théâtre et autres spectacles en Allemagne ont réalisé et monté ensemble une série de vidéo-clips parodiques sur le thème du confinement total (alles dicht machen : tout fermer) pour protester contre les mesures de plus en plus contraignantes et autoritaires pour "lutter" contre l'épidémie de Covid-19. A. Merkel vient de faire voter au Bundestag une loi très controversée lui permettant de passer par dessus les parlements régionaux (Länder) au cas où ceux-ci se montreraient récalcitrants à appliquer des directives trop sévères. Ce clip a eu tout d'abord un grand succès, et a été soutenu par des personnalités de tous horizons politiques, jusqu'à ce qu'Alice Weidel, l'une des dirigeantes du parti "Alternative für Deutschland" (AfD), ait eu le malheur de dire qu'elle trouvait cette initiative sympathique elle aussi. Certains artistes qui ont collaboré à ce clip ont alors renoncé à leur participation au motif de ne pas "soutenir l'extrême-droite" (le projet n'avait à l'origine aucune coloration politique particulière). Ces retraits ont principalement concerné des acteurs et réalisateurs d'une série télévisée populaire en Allemagne, Tatort, produite et diffusée par la chaîne publique ARD. Celle-ci s'est lancée dans une violente campagne de contestation de cette initiative, notamment via son site d'information Tageschau, repris ensuite par d'autres organes de presse.

BTW, to get back to the ballet domain, my co-religionary Heinrich Heine of WILI fame (a convert to Protestantism but, hey, nobody's perfect) wrote a number of unflattering things about his countrymen ... and has just been censored from Facebook or some other ludicrous GAFA platform.

Just so we all know, Allesdichtmachen has been openly, publicly, supported by men - yes MEN, Dare one Say It? - such as the former head of the Verfassungsschutz (German MI5, more or less) Hans-Georg Maassen, or Dr. Stefan Homburg of the Leibniz University at Hannover.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, a number of the artists who took part in Allesdichtmachen have received death threats, including death threats against their children.

Other Friendly Neighbourhood Gauleiters are proposing Berufsverbot (forbidden to exercise the acting profession in future) for the participants, and Friendly Neighbourghood GAFA Youtube, has removed Alldesdichtmachen from its search engine, after it reached 10 million, I repeat, TEN MILLION views in the German-speaking world.

Allesdichtmachen is now the number 1 hashtag on Twitter. I have no idea what that means because I belong to no social media, but I imagine it means that millions have been reading Allesdichtmachen's twitter messages.

Which are the new Xenien of this XenienJahr 2021 (for a French master of the Xenien, allow me to suggest Dr. Marlon/Reinfo Covid. His way with the French language is beyond belief - poetry in 126 characters. Vivid, and er, not always tasteful, but poetry nonetheless.)

Dansomanie being an ARTISTIC Website, and Uncle Balanchine having made a ballet ForChrissake, on the Davidsbündler, I should like to stress that most of the contributions to allesdichtmachen actually qualify as POETRY, in the strongest sense of the term.

If you can't CREATE a Shitstorm in the real world, you might as well be that Von Platen of whom Heine was not terribly fond, I believe. Or perhaps Carl Maria Weber ... who doesn't hold up well against Shitstormer Ludwig v. B.
