あと、バンジャマン・ミルピエのドキュメンタリー 「Dancing Is Living : Benjamin Millepied」 を撮ったルイ・ウォレカン監督へのインタビューがシネマトゥデイに載っていました。

「Dancing Is Living」 は、ミルピエがL.A. Dance Project を立ち上げ、オペラ座の芸術監督に決まるまでを追ったドキュメンタリー。 フランスでは既にテレビで放送されています。 この記事には日本での放送や放映についての情報は載ってないのですが、どっかでやるのかしら。
ちなみに、ドキュメンタリーには NYCB 時代の映像は少なく、監督は NYCB に要求したみたいなのですが、やはり許可は出なかったとか。

Dance Europe 最新号 （2015年3月号） にバンジャマン・ミルピエのロングインタビューが載っています。 本家 Sophia さんがレジュメを掲載してくれてますので、こちらでもご紹介しますね。

Une longue interview de Benjamin Millepied, par Emma Kauldhar, est à lire dans le numéro de mars de Dance Europe (avec Natalia Ossipova et Matthew Golding en couverture). Compte-rendu très partiel (et partial) :
On n'y lira pas de révélation fracassante - Millepied, pour l'essentiel, y rappelle les circonstances de sa nomination et y présente ses projets ainsi que sa nouvelle saison -, mais le ton, pour qui sait lire attentivement, pourra simplement apparaître très légèrement différent de celui qu'il adopte dans la presse française - pour faire bref, un peu moins dans la pure promo et le ravissement, un peu plus dans la lucidité d'un regard extérieur. Ainsi, à propos de l'ONP, il ne parle pas, à l'instar de celle qui l'a précédé à ce poste de direction, de "ze best company in ze world", mais, plus sobrement et plus modestement, de "one of the great companies". Il rappelle également à plusieurs reprises - presque déjà désabusé? - les limites de ses pouvoirs de directeur, notamment concernant les promotions : "I do see a lot of potential and not enough opportunities to give everyone [...]. And not something that I can cure, because I'm not the one who promotes people. It's just an old custom. It was organized after the Revolution so that the dancers would be protected, because before the only way to move up was to sleep with the director!"
A propos du fait qu'il veuille passe outre, dans une certaine mesure, la traditionnelle hiérarchie du ballet - démarche dont il réaffirme plus que jamais la nécessité -, la journaliste lui demande s'il a rencontré des oppositions, ce à quoi il répond, non sans laisser planer quelque mystère : "Nothing major - not so far". Il reconnait cependant ailleurs qu'il n'a pas ressenti du tout de rejet de la part des danseurs, du genre "who are you and why are you here?". Emma Kauldhar lui demande aussi - et la question me semble très pertinente - s'il lui importait d'être aimé : "Yes, it does, of course, I would lie if I said it didn't, but I realise that, especially when you bring change, there are only a certain number of people who are going to go along and follow you and get it. I cannot do my work just to please." De fait, il semble qu'il faille encore attendre la saison prochaine pour voir des distributions vraiment significatives de ce qu'il souhaite : "This is a funny time of the year, because I'm getting to discover the company and I'm also trying people because I'm putting them in new roles. I'm seeing them in them, I'm watching them rehearse and I'm getting to know. So casting is going to be more telling next year than it is, in a way, this year."
Un peu de langue de bois ne fait toutefois pas de mal : "I think it's a good season and will offer more opportunities for the dancers and a lot of new things for the audience to see. It's going to be super exciting to start the season..." Quant à la partition de Wagner choisie pour le défilé, c'est différent, mais c'est aussi "much better". 
Comme il l'avait déjà dit dans une précédente interview, Millepied présente comme centrale la question du répertoire classique - et la manière dont il est dansé : "I think that the quality of how classical ballets are danced is mots important. I think how we create new ballets with the classical vocabulary also is mot important. I will keep some of Nureyev and some will be replaced by new productions, and I think it's important for the dancers to try some new things and for the audiences to see some new ballets." A la question de savoir la différence fondamentale entre diriger le NYCB et l'Opéra de Paris, Millepied repond en soulignant la difficulté qu'il y a d'avoir à Paris 154 danseurs répartis dans deux théâtres (pour comparaison, le NYCB a un seul théâtre et 100 danseurs) : "it's very hard to control quality, to be in two places at once. But when you have one theatre and it's always there and you're never missing here or there, and you can teach and there are fewer dancers and teachers, things get more specific. And you can have artistic control - that's what ballet is about. Ballet is not about running a factory, it's about dancers being united in a singular direction of how they dance. And that is very hard with the job here."
Un thème qui n'avait peut-être pas été évoqué - qui réjouira ou fera grincer des dents - est celui des "danseurs invités". Dans un premier temps, Millepied affirme - encore une fois - qu'il ne peut pas faire ce qu'il veut en matière de "diversité" (la journaliste lui demande s'il compte faire venir des gens de l'extérieur, d'autres compagnies) : "I agree in that the diversity in the company is nowhere like it is in many other companies, but you know I don't have the power to pick who I want to get in. There's a concours and a jury of 12 people and I'm only a voice in that concours. I don't have extra power. I don't have the power to bring anyone in - I am barely a director here. But I do have some and I can bring guests and I can start to open things up in some ways - there are way to do things but it's not easy - nothing is easy. But yes, the company needs to." A ce sujet, il affirme avoir des personnes en tête, sans donner davantage de précisions : "I want to invite some guest artists for next year and I'm going to invite the best that I can find for the right parts because I think that it's only going to make the dancers here feel even more excited to be part of this company. There are a few phenomenal dancers who deserve to come and dance here." |
このインタビューは是非全文を読みたいと思っているところですが、とりあえずミルピエは；
- （オペラ座のダンサーたちについて） たくさんのポテンシャルはあるが、その全員に充分なチャンスが与えられていないと思う。 救いたいが僕の力が及ばない部分があって、何故かというと、彼らを昇進させたのは僕ではないから。 （コンクールは） ただの古いしきたりで、ダンサーたちを守るために革命の後に作られたものなんだ。 何故って、当時は昇進するためにはディレクターと寝なくちゃいけなかったからね！
- 今はまだカンパニーについていろいろと学んでいる最中で、ダンサーたちについても新しい役につけたりして、よく観察してリハーサルも見て、知りはじめているとことなんだ。 だから、今よりも来シーズンのほうがキャスティングは面白くなると思う。 来シーズンが楽しみだよ。
- （デフィレの曲をワーグナーにしたことについて） そのほうがずっといい。
- 古典バレエを上演するにはそのレベル （質） が最も重要だと思う。 クラシックのボキャブラリーを用いて新作を創ることも大変重要なこと。 ヌレエフ作品のいくつかは残すけど、いくつかは新しいプロダクションに置き換えるつもりだ。 ダンサーたちにとって新しいことに挑戦することは重要だし、観客にとっても新しいバレエを観ることは重要だから。
- （NYCB とパリ・オペラ座の大きな違いについて） （NYCB はダンサーは100名に対してオペラ座は154名で） 同時に2箇所で公演を行うときは、その質をコントロールするのが難しい。 1ヶ所だったらダンサーの人数も教師の人数も少なくて済み、より細かいところまで目が行き渡るのでコントロールしやすいし、それがバレエというものだと思う。 バレエは大量生産するものではなく、どう踊るかという方向性は一つにまとまっているべきで、それがここでは大変難しい仕事になっている。
- （ゲストについて） ほかのカンパニーに比べてオペラ座には多様性というものはどこにもないけれど、僕には自由にダンサーを採用する権限がないんだ。 コンクールだって、12人いる審査員の一人にすぎない。 芸術監督といっても単なる芸術監督で、ダンサーの採用に関しては特別な権利を持たないんだよ。 でも、ゲストの招聘はできるし、何らかの形でもう少し門戸を開いていくこともできると思う。 簡単ではないけど、何事も簡単ではないから。 ただ言えるのは、オペラ座にはそれが必要だということ。
- 来年はゲストを何人か呼びたいと思っていて、この役にはこのダンサーがベストというダンサーを招聘するつもり。 そうすることで、オペラ座のダンサーたちがこのカンパニーにいることにもっと嬉しくてワクワクすると感じられるようになると思うからね。 オペラ座にゲストするのに相応しい驚くほど素晴らしいダンサーは何人かいますよ。

Le Figaro に Ariane Bavelier さんがこの新作について少し詳しく書いてくれています。
それによると、そもそもこの音楽はキム・ノヴァク演じるジュディがスコティの求めに応じてマデリーンの姿になる場面に流れる曲ですが、レオノール・ボーラックとジェニー・テイラーは、共にブロンドで背格好も似ているため、この二人がジュディとマデリーンという設定みたいです。 モーガン・ルーゴは主人公のスコティ、残りの14人はコールドということになるようですね。

Do you plan on doing away with the infamous internal competition, the concours de promotion?
We’ll see. I think it’s anti-art: You can’t rank dancers, and it’s completely unfair to judge them on one day. The dancers say it’s a chance for them to be seen, but when I started to teach class, a lot of people didn’t come because they were afraid to show themselves. There are a lot of contradictions. If they want to keep the concours, in a way, too bad for them. |

| ミルピエが twitter で公表したところによると、2016-2017シーズンは2016年1月に発表されるそうです。 プログラムはほぼ固まったみたいですね。

2016-2017シーズンは、2月10日にオペラ座公式サイト上で発表されるそうです。 当初ミルピエが twitter で1月とつぶやいてましたが、2月になったようですね。
また、会員向けのプレゼンテーションは2月12日、13日にガルニエ宮で行われるとのことです。
