25ème Concours de Varna [15-30 juillet 2012]

Le Concours de Varna va débuter dans quelques jours, mais qui le sait?

Fidèle à sa légendaire réputation d'opacité, le site de la compétition, au "design" résolument immuable et comme figé dans un autre siècle, ne nous en apprendra - hélas! - pas plus sur les candidats ou encore les membres du jury de cette 25e édition.

The only thing I could find out is that Denys Cherevychko, principal dancer with the Vienna State Ballet, is taking part in the competition.

41 candidates are qualified for the second round (21 seniors, 20 juniors):

3 Bulgarian dancers: Christina Chovanchova and Tzvetvan Stankov (seniors) and Nataly Bratanova (juniors) who is a student of the Vienna State Opera ballet school.
10 dancers from Japan (3 seniors, 7 juniors),
8 from Corea (3 seniors, 5 juniors) and
4 from the US (2 seniors, 2 juniors)
At the moment no information is given about the other 16 participants.

The second round starts today.

Brooklyn Mack (USA) and Denys Cherevychko (Ukraine/Austria) both won the gold medal of this year's competition.

Denys Cherevychko joined the Vienna State Ballet in 2006.
Gyula Harangozó promoted him to demi-soloist in 2008 and to soloist (premier danseur) in 2009.
One month ago Denys Cherevychko was promoted to the rank of principal dancer by Manuel Legris.

July 28 (BTA) - Two Bulgarian dancers, Christina Chochanova and Natalie Bratanova, won awards at the 25 International Ballet Competition in Varna. This was announced by Prof. Peter Loukanov, Chair of the 17-member jury. Chochanova, who competed in the senior group, won a bronze medal and a diploma, while Bratanova, running in the junior group, was granted an award, level III. In the men's senior group both Brooklyn Mac (USA) and Denis Cherevichko (Austria) were first, followed by Arata Miyagawa (Japan).
