Ailey II ouvre le Festival de Marseille, par Marie-Eve Barbier (La Provence)

Citation:

Agathe Poupeney, exposition (Via France)

Citation:

A Danish Modern Twist Updates Classical Ballet, par Alastair Macaulay (The New York Times)

Citation:
See Naples and then die? In the passage of his memoirs that describes his visit to Naples and his subsequent composition of his three-act ballet “Napoli” (1842), the Danish choreographer August Bournonville quotes the old motto. Since the highlight of “Napoli” is the stream of uninterrupted dancing in its third act, this is often performed by itself and is the exuberant conclusion of the quadruple bill with which the Royal Danish Ballet opens its weeklong engagement at the David H. Koch Theater. Unfortunately the three ballets that precede it are each in different ways so depressing that the evening seems to say “Die, die, die, and then see ‘Napoli.’ ” ...

Neapolitan Sunshine Brightens Danish Gloom, par Robert Greskovic (Wall Street Journal)

Citation:
Before opening in New York on Tuesday at Lincoln Center's David H. Koch Theater, Copenhagen's distinguished Royal Danish Ballet played the Kennedy Center in Washington, where it offered two of its recent large-scale productions. Each harked back to the centuries-old company's connection to the repertory of dancer-choreographer August Bournonville (1805-1879), whose name is inseparably linked to the troupe. Bournonville's "Napoli" (1842) and "A Folk Tale" (1854) were shown in newly revised productions under the guidance of Nikolaj Hübbe, with assistance from Sorella Englund, a former Royal Danish Ballet dancer. The Danish-born Mr. Hübbe had been a leading light at New York City Ballet for 15 years before assuming, in 2008, the directorship of the the Royal Danish Ballet, the company that first nurtured him. Both stagings revealed artful moments that honored the dances' 19th-century heritage while increasing their impact on contemporary audiences...

Royal visit: revered Danish troupe to perform at Lincoln Center, par Robert Johnson (New Jersey On Line)

Citation:
Nikolaj Hübbe, the artistic director of the Royal Danish Ballet, still gets a thrill when he sets eyes on the Royal Theatre in Copenhagen, where he bicycles to work each day. Pedaling down a cobbled side street, he turns the corner and the opera house, also known as the Old Stage, swings into view. A golden-hued, neoclassical pile erected in 1874, the theater houses one of Europe's most pedigreed dance troupes. "Boom, there it is, like this big, majestic animal," Hübbe (pronounced HEW-ba) says admiringly of the theater. "Beautiful, like a lion."..

Ballet Nacional de Cuba To Perform "Don Quixote", par Alexa Velasquez (Neon Tommy - Annenberg Digital News)

Citation:
At the end of the month, the city of Los Angeles will be hosting one of professional ballet’s most prominent companies: the Ballet Nacional de Cuba, who will be performing the classic Don Quixote at the Dorothy Chandler Pavillon June 23-26. Formed in 1948, the company has earned an incredibly prestigious place in international ballet, producing some of the most lauded and technically gifted dancers internationally. “After so many years and so much hard work, it is the most rewarding feeling to know that the company is appreciated at such a high level,” said principal dancer Dani Hernández ...

Dancer Gary Avis invites Royal Ballet to come dancing at the Ipswich Regent, par Andrew Clarke (EADT - Suffolk Magazine)

Citation:
Famously hard to please, ballet critics have waxed lyrical about his excellent partnerships with many of the great ballerinas and his unequalled ability to breathe new life into many of the great character roles in the Royal Ballet’s repertoire. Appointed ballet master in January 2010, the Ipswich-born Royal Ballet principal continues to take on new challenges and continues to display unreserved passion for his work. In September, he is producing a charity gala at the Regent Theatre in Ipswich. Entitled Gary Avis and Friends it features... Gary Avis and friends.
Speaking after dancing at the launch of the Frederick Ashton exhibition at Ipswich Town Hall exhibition, Gary said that he relished the opportunity to bring together his friends from the world of professional ballet with the Suffolk friends who helped launch his career...

- "Ja." - "Gibt es irgendetwas, was Sie an Stuttgart schätzen oder auf was Sie ein bisschen neidisch sind?" - "Eigentlich nicht."...
