Yes, the Ventana and Kermesse will be new productions, the former by Gudrun Bojesen (her first), the latter by Ib Andersen.
In other news, Alban Lendorf will also be appearing with the Peter Schaufuss company at the London Coliseum from 23-28 July, dancing all performances of Swan Lake and Sleeping Beauty.

The RDB has announced that Thomas Lund will be retiring, to become head of the school. His farewell gala will take place on 29 September, at which he will dance The Lesson and James in La Sylphide; prior to that, he will dance 5 performances of Ratmansky's new Coq d'Or.
I know he will do a wonderful job running the school, but it just feels far too soon to lose such a wonderful dancer.

The Royal Danish Ballet celebrates the 135th anniversary of La Bayadère, long a treasure of Russian repertoire, with a new production by Artistic Director Nikolaj Hübbe, debuting this November in Copenhagen. Prior to the premiere, Hübbe will share his staging ideas, Royal Danish Ballet dancers will perform excerpts, and members of the creative team, including stage designer Richard Hudson, will discuss their creative process.
With assistance from Arlene C. Cooper.

Well, if so, I know where they can go to get a great Raymonda in 2033!
In any case, I believe W&P only streams the first night, which is subsequently archived online. I'm going tonight and will try to report tomorrow. Did anyone watch it last night--which dancers came?

Holly Dorger...

To complete the roster, Lena Marie Gruber did Gamzatti (here renamed) in excerpts (in reverse order) from the Betrothal Scene's pas d'action, and Jon Axel Fransson did the Golden Idol (which will apparently become the Blue God).
I thought Hubbe's concept, of moving the story forward to Edwardian times and adding a racial element by making Solor, Gamzatti and the Rajah English, interesting. I was a bit taken aback by his statement that in the original the Rajah and the Brahmin conspire to kill Nikiya, as I think it misstates the Brahmin's role and I think it's at the least ambiguous whether in fact Gamzatti doesn't beat the Rajah to the punch--but in any event in his version it will be Gamzatti/Lady Emma.
Much of the choreography shown looked as we know it, though I saw several bits and flourishes that I assume were his. From the slides, some of the sets looked lovely; I'm a bit less certain about the costumes, but one would have to see the production to decide.
When I first heard that the RDB was going to stage Bayadere, I couldn't envision it--it's not the kind of corps I would think of for Shades, I don't see many of the principals as all that well-suited for the three main roles (Lendorf being an obvious exception--I think he could be a great Solor), and I don't know how it will fit on that stage. I'm not sure after this session that it still isn't a far stretch, but I think it will be interesting, and something I hope not to miss.

Thanks voyageur! I didn't know it was a new/modernized version (thought they staged a Makarova or something...). I think it's the first time Bayadère is set in "modern" times. Knowing Hübbe's Napoli, maybe we can have some fears?

I think one could have fears even when he doesn't change the period (Folk Tale springs to mind)!
