When it comes to the modern dance crowd musclin' in on our territory, Michael Corder is NOT a happy camper.
"There isn’t enough encouragement from classical ballet companies to develop classical choreographers,” Corder explains. “There have been way too many contemporary choreographers coming into classical companies and taking those opportunities. If you invite people from the contemporary world into ballet companies then that’s the kind of work young choreographers will aspire to. If we aren’t careful we will end up with no young classical choreographers coming through at all.” Is anyone out there listening? The man with the mission sure hopes so. "
