Here's my impression on Ballet Supreme, which was such a fun and great project. I feel so much honored to see those wonderful dancers get together in Tokyo, inspiring each other, and giving us brilliant performances! The Royal Ballet team was greatly in shape. The team Paris Opera Ballet looked ok even though they landed in Japan the day before the premiere after 14-hour-flight from NY with 13-hour time difference. They were enjoying being on stage with fabulous dancers from London.
The Team Royal Ballet won Program A with the wonderful works of Ashton, MacMillan, Scarlett, Akane Takada's moving Giselle and superb tap dance by Steven McRae. McRae was the starter of Program A. He sat the audiences on fire with Ashton's Rhapsody. His partner Iana Salenko was so good, too. Asphodel Meadows was beautifully and impressively danced by Francesca Hayward and Marcelino Sambé. Hayward also danced Juliet so vividly, somehow reminded me of Alessandra Ferri, with Federico Bonelli, an ideal Romeo in MacMillan's R&B. Akane Takada's Giselle was so moving but what she wowed the audiences most was her high saut! The second part was the Team Opéra de Paris. Myriam Ould-Braham and Mathias Heymann's Swan Lake grand adagio was nice and gentle but little emotion and I couldn't catch any story between Odette and Siegfried. Léonore Baulac obviously looked so tired, of course with this tough schedule, but I really loved her interpretation of Odile. Germain Louvet WAS her prince. He was truly noble, enough to take on additional 8 counts with grande pirouette à la seconde after Odile's 24 grand fuette at coda. Esmeralda was actually a refreshment. Hannah O'Neill and Hugo Marchand were shining in front of Japanese audiences. I loved their sublime Esmeralda but it seems most of us wanted some more punch and much more virtuoso. I have seen Mathias Heymann dance Manfred a couple of times before. This time I felt that he danced it in a bit kind of objective way, no narcissism, nor indulgence, and this was successful. It was somehow like Neumeier and I really liked it.

Myriam Ould Braham will guest with the Tokyo City Ballet (not the Tokyo Ballet) in Swan Lake next March, replacing Iana Salenko who was initially scheduled to guest. She will be partnered by Dinu Tamazlacaru from Berlin. Vladimir Malakhov and Wieslaw Dudek will be guest ballet master for this Swan Lake. What is very interesting is that Tsuguharu Foujita is credited as scenographer.
