Swan completes full 50-year cycle, par Sally Bennett (The Herald Sun)

Citation:
The Australian Ballet will go back to where it all began during a bold year of work celebrating its 50th birthday next year. An all-new Swan Lake, by resident choreographer Stephen Baynes, will makes its premiere in Melbourne in September, adding to the work's long history with the company. It was the first ballet the company performed when it launched in 1962 and it was famously re-created by Graeme Murphy for the company's 40th birthday. Murphy's Swan Lake went into repertoires around the world and will be taken to New York next year as part of the ballet's international tour. The company's artistic director David McAllister says the 50th anniversary program is a mix of classics and cutting-edge new work...

Australian Ballet marks 50th with style, par Philippa Hawker (The Sidney Morning Herald)

Citation:
The Australian Ballet celebrates its 50th anniversary next year with a program that sets out to embrace past and future. The 2012 season, announced yesterday, includes a gala performance with international guests; an event featuring more than half a dozen Australian dance companies; an all-new triple bill with works from Graeme Murphy, Stephen Page and Gideon Obarzanek; a new yet traditional Swan Lake and the return to the stage of the company's longest-serving principal, Steven Heathcote, for a special pas de deux...

AB shares the love in celebrating a golden anniversary, par Deborah Jones (The Australian)

Citation:
The Australian Ballet will not only be on its toes for its 50th anniversary celebrations next year but on the road too, visiting most Australian capital cities and returning to New York for the first time since 1999. It will be the company's biggest commitment to national touring since its 40th birthday in 2002. The AB will also share the love with other dancers. AB artistic director David McAllister has invited West Australian Ballet, Queensland Ballet, Sydney Dance Company, Adelaide-based Australian Dance Theatre and Queensland's Expressions Dance Company and Dance North to take to the stage in Melbourne in June. Tasdance, which is touring at the time, will appear via film. Despite its expansive flavour, the multi-company Let's Dance is too complicated a venture to put on the touring schedule, and will be seen in Melbourne only. Another birthday gift for the AB's hometown audience will be an international gala to feature dancers from the Paris Opera Ballet, London's Royal Ballet, Tokyo Ballet and National Ballet of China...

Celebrating the past and a bright future , par Wendy Frew (The Sidney Morning Herald)

Citation:
In the style of the best birthday bashes, the Australian Ballet has spared no expense for its 50th anniversary, yesterday unveiling an impressive line-up with a heavy emphasis on new works. In what it has described as its most expansive program, the company will stage four new ballets next year from Australia's leading dance creatives: Graeme Murphy, Gideon Obarzanek, Stephen Page and Tim Harbour. The company's artistic director, David McAllister, says he considered designing a program of new commissions and works never performed by the company...

Australian Ballet celebrates golden anniversary with international gala, par Sally Bennett (The Herald Sun)

Citation:
Dancers from the world's most prestigious ballet companies will perform their "greatest hits" in Melbourne next year during a celebration of the Australian Ballet's 50th birthday. The international gala, at the Arts Centre in October, is part of an ambitious program the ballet unveiled today to mark the milestone. The 2012 season is a mix of old and new, including an all-new Swan Lake, from resident choreographer Stephen Baynes, and one from the vault in Onegin. The year will kick off with a cutting-edge triple bill, Infinity, from the big guns of Australian choreography - Graeme Murphy, Stephen Page and Gideon Obarzanek. Artistic director David McAllister said it was the company's "biggest season ever."...

The Australian Ballet Launches 2012 Season (Broadway World)

Citation:
The Australian Ballet has launched a blockbuster program to celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2012. Revealing the season repertoire in Melbourne today, Artistic Director David McAllister announced new commissions - including a traditional Swan Lake - along with classic revivals of audience favourites, an all-Australian dance party and a special international gala. This milestone season is the culmination of a three-year program showcasing the company's rich history and achievements. McAllister says the championing of original works is a bold move into the future. "Over 50 years, the company has developed a dynamic and unique style, and I'm so proud to have so many Australian choreographers featured in such a historic year," said McAllister...

Edinburgh Festival 2011: Scottish Ballet Double Bill, Edinburgh Playhouse, par Sarah Crompton (The Telegraph)

Citation:
Artistic director Ashley Page leaves Scottish Ballet next year after a decade in charge. Over that period, he has transformed them into a dynamic, forward-looking company. And his cleverness in programming is revealed by this smart double bill, premiered as part of the Edinburgh International Festival, which sets a new commission by Jorma Elo alongside Kenneth MacMillan’s masterful Song of the Earth. Elo, Boston Ballet’s resident choreographer, is little known in Britain. On the basis of Kings 2 Ends, he has a sleek, attractive and quite distinctive style, which noodles around the edges of both classical and contemporary techniques...

Welcome back, Eifman, par Ori J. Lenkinski (The Jerusalem Post)

Citation:
The Boris Eifman Ballet returns, with the compelling stories of Eugene Onegin and Don Quixote. For the past several years, one staple in the Tel Aviv Performing Arts Center’s programming has been the Boris Eifman Ballet of Saint Petersburg. Hailing from the widely accepted home of ballet, Eifman’s company has wowed Israeli audiences time and again with flawless technique and masterful composition. Now, with the summer almost over, TAPAC is gearing up for a new season of dance, which recently kicked off with Forever Tango by Luis Bravo. Following Bravo’s ode to Argentina at TAPAC, Eifman Ballet will return to Israel with two ballets: Onegin and a new interpretation of an old work entitled I, Don Quixote. For more than three decades, Eifman has been a leading figure in the Russian dance community. Since his appointment as the artistic director of the Leningrad Ballet Ensemble in 1977, the only consistent thing in Eifman’s life has been his commitment to the stage...

The Mariinsky - Glory Be!, par The Southbank Gourmande (Her is the City - Londres)

Citation:
Reputed to be the best classical ballet company in the world, they presented three short pieces on the 5th of August, all more modern than the Swan Lake and other classics for which they are so adored. I was curious to see how it would be. In Scotch Symphony, the music was still classical by Mendelssohn, but the choreography was Balanchine. They appeared in soft pink featherlight dresses, seemingly floating on point, heir toes magically carrying them so gracefully it took your breath away. Arms gently waving with the music, in harmony with each other but not in a forced, rigid way, just as if that’s what they do naturally. And, of course, such is their training, so arduous and long, that is does become natural for these dancers to behave like snowflakes, so light and delicate, dancing in a light breeze...

Carlos Acosta: Honored to Receive Cuban National Dance Prize 2011 (Agencia Cubana de Noticias)

Citation:
The island’s Minister of Culture Abel Prieto handed down the prize to the dancer, who at 38 becomes the youngest Cuban artist to win this award. Acosta said the recognition was the fruit of the hard work and efforts of his professors. He also thanked his parents and dance figures Alicia Alonso and Fernando Alonso for their support. In handing down the award, Abel Prieto was accompanied by the respective presidents of the Cuban Association of Writers and Artists and of the National Council of Stage Arts, Miguel Barnet and Julian Gonzalez...

Ballet language: German stars to shine in Moscow (RT.com)

Citation:
Stars from the Hamburg Ballet are heading to Moscow for a Kremlin Gala show. Soloists with the renowned German troupe will perform productions staged by legendary American choreographer John Neumeier. One of the most renowned choreographers in contemporary ballet, the artistic director of the Hamburg Ballet will be the special guest at the gala in Moscow, which will take place on September 17 and 18. Two leading soloists of the German troupe, Helene Bouchet and Thiago Bordin, will dance “Adagietto” from Gustav Mahler’s Fifth Symphony and “Meditation” from Neumeier’s “Illusions Like Swan Lake.” The Kremlin Gala program will also feature a duet, “The Lady of the Camellias,” to music by Frederic Chopin, performed by Bavarian National Ballet dancers Lucia Lacarra and Marlon Dino...

Klamauk auf dem Theaterplatz
, par Jürgen Scharf (Südkurier)

Citation:
