Very glad to know that Inès is invited for the gala.
Here I have a little memory about Ivan Nagy: he was one of the partners of Natalia Makarova, especially as Prince in the Swan Lake of Makarova’s version at ABT. I had encountered him by chance in Beijing, it was more than ten years ago, he was invited to help the National Ballet of China to rehearse the Swan Lake on behalf of Makarova. The performance was held at the Conference Hall of Peking University, and just about fifteen minutes before the performance, I noticed that he was looking for his seat in the audience, for some reason there was no interpreter accompanying him. I helped him to find a regisseur of the company (she is also the teacher of our ballet amateur class) then find his seat which was just in front of mine. During the intermission, I told him that he looked familiar as one dancer but I couldn’t recall the name, he said that it was impossible for me (as my age) to know him but then he said he used to be partner of Makarova. For unknown reason I asked him at once if it was in Swan Lake and it was why he came to Beijing. He said yes. Then I said I knew who he was - Ivan, Ivan Nagy. He was very surprised. I told him that I had a DVD of Swan Lake which was exactly performed by Makarova and him at ABT and I had watched this DVD not long ago. He was very happy and told me that he had returned to his homeland Hungary already and had become artistic director of the National Ballet of Hungary and then he was retired and sometimes he helped Makarova to rehearse some ballets for other ballet companies. He was a very kind person.
